Have you ever played the Game of Life?
You know the one…as you move through the game, you start a career, get married, start a family, and go through “Life”.
On one of our trips to a local second-hand store, I came across a Christian version called “Generosity”.
In this game, you are given a career, such as pastor, missionary, etc…, and a salary. You then have the option to get married or not. Throughout the game, there are certain life events which will apply to you only if you are either married or single. When it comes to having children, that is only allowed if you are married. If you are single, you can always adopt.
Throughout the game, there are spaces to land on which give different instructions. Perhaps you will buy insurance. Maybe you will pay a bill. Our favorite spaces are the ones where we receive money. I know what you’re thinking—well, duh, everyone likes money—but this game is different. Each time you land on a space where you receive money, you must draw a generosity card. This card will tell you to give a certain portion of your gains to a charity. The kicker is that you must also draw an attitude card. The attitude card will say one of two things:
At the end of the game, the person who has stored up the most treasures in heaven wins! It is great fun to see the kids eager to give their money to charities instead of trying to accumulate the most money or properties!
What wholesome board games have you played lately?
God Bless 🙂
