Traveling the World Through Postcards

Would you like to visit Belarus?

How about Finland?

Perhaps Great Britain?

If your kiddos are anything like mine, the are infinitely curious about different cultures.  They know that we live in a vastly diverse world and I have found a wonderful way to share that world with them.  Three years ago, I discovered

Postcrossing has opened the world for us and enabled us to meet people from all around the globe.  The premise is simple:

“send a postcard and receive one back from a random person in the world”.

Here is how it works:

  1. Register at the site
  2. Request an address from the website
  3. Mail a postcard to the address given
  4. Once your postcard is registered, you will be eligible to receive a postcard
  5. Receive your postcard and register it on the website

Postcards we have collected

Such a simple idea with such lasting benefits.  When we receive a postcard, it is always such an exciting day in our house.  First, we examine the picture side of the postcard to see if there are any clues as to where it has traveled from.  Next, we look at the stamps (sometimes the most beautiful part of the postcard!).  Then, we read the message from our fellow postcrosser and register our card.  Finally, we find the country and city on our world map and head to the internet to learn more about this faraway land.

So, tell me, what did you find in your mailbox today?

God Bless 🙂

  1. Wow! This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing; I am heading over there now. 🙂

    • Glad to hear it. It is so much fun for our family. I actually have 14 cards I am writing out tonight to put in the mail tomorrow. Keep in mind that the international postcard rate is $1.10. Some people find it pricey, but it is worth every penny in my book. Enjoy and God bless 🙂
