I love the choice we made!
“R”is learning about the states of different elements right now. In the middle of her science lesson today she stopped so that she could learn more.
First, we explored dry ice. She was fascinated, as was “J”, my six year old. This is the video that we found and I so want to try this at home.
Next, she wanted to understand mercury and why it “moves up”. 🙂 After I explained expanding and contracting, she decided to do an experiment. She filled a pan with ice, put a thermometer in it, turned on the stove, and watched the mercury rise.
When she had completed that, she put the water (with the thermometer) in the freezer so that she could see if it really was at 32*F/0*C when it was frozen.
If she was enrolled in a brick and mortar public school that never would have happened. In our virtual learning world, she is free to explore the world around her…and take me with her as she does!
God Bless 🙂
